Getting Through Difficult Times

Wow! Sorry about the lack of posts, I hardly had any time to sit down and relax for a few minutes, let alone write a journal entry! Well, 5 months and 50 deaths later, we finally made it.! The voyage didn't go exactly as we planned, so here's the story.

It all started about 10 days into the trip. There was hardly any of the necessary supplies for survival, especially when it came to food. Some food was available in the ships hold, but after an extended period of time it wasn't fresh enough to consume, which is the main reason why we all starved throughout the majority of of the trip. The only decent food we ever ate was food of which the sailors pilfered. We didn't get it for free though, they always expected something good in return such as sassafras, money, or furs. As if the continual labor wasn't bad enough, the sun became our bitter enemy. In fact, it's extremity left us even more weak, miserable, and exhausted then we already were. Those that didn't die from the work eventually ended up dying of harsh disease.

Thanks to the atrocious weather we experience while out at sea, we've finally arrived in Jamestown 3 months late, and because of this we won't be able to plant our crops, UGH! If only the "captain" of this ship could do something right, I mean, is sailing across the ocean in a straight line really that hard? With all this being said, I should probably get back to my group. I mean, SOMEONE has to step up and take charge around here, right? The rest of the clan doesn't understand how lucky they are to have me. If they didn't, this trip would have been way more chaotic than it has already has been. Heck, if it wasn't for me, they wouldn't even have houses to live in! From now on, I shall consider myself the official leader of this outrageous group. From here on out you can call me captain, Captain John Smith, that is.

P.S.    Here is a map of our new settlement!
