Isn't she a beauty?!

Isn't she a beauty!?  I'm just getting a quick entry in before we set off on our voyage!

We're On Our Way!

Hey Guys! Just letting you know that I'm about to set off on my exploration to America! Some people may be a little nervous about putting themselves in such a dangerous situation, but not this guy! I mean, I'm obviously the greatest captain on the face of the earth, so clearly there's nothing to worry about! I'll try to keep you all posted!

Getting Through Difficult Times

Wow! Sorry about the lack of posts, I hardly had any time to sit down and relax for a few minutes, let alone write a journal entry! Well, 5 months and 50 deaths later, we finally made it.! The voyage didn't go exactly as we planned, so here's the story.

It all started about 10 days into the trip. There was hardly any of the necessary supplies for survival, especially when it came to food. Some food was available in the ships hold, but after an extended period of time it wasn't fresh enough to consume, which is the main reason why we all starved throughout the majority of of the trip. The only decent food we ever ate was food of which the sailors pilfered. We didn't get it for free though, they always expected something good in return such as sassafras, money, or furs. As if the continual labor wasn't bad enough, the sun became our bitter enemy. In fact, it's extremity left us even more weak, miserable, and exhausted then we already were. Those that didn't die from the work eventually ended up dying of harsh disease.

Thanks to the atrocious weather we experience while out at sea, we've finally arrived in Jamestown 3 months late, and because of this we won't be able to plant our crops, UGH! If only the "captain" of this ship could do something right, I mean, is sailing across the ocean in a straight line really that hard? With all this being said, I should probably get back to my group. I mean, SOMEONE has to step up and take charge around here, right? The rest of the clan doesn't understand how lucky they are to have me. If they didn't, this trip would have been way more chaotic than it has already has been. Heck, if it wasn't for me, they wouldn't even have houses to live in! From now on, I shall consider myself the official leader of this outrageous group. From here on out you can call me captain, Captain John Smith, that is.

Always Expect the Unexpected

Just when I thought that this trip couldn't get any worse, today has proven me wrong.

All was well as I began to lead a portion of my troop down the Chickahominy River in search of food. We were starving! (Actually, starving was probably an understatement.) Then, out of nowhere, there was a hot, sweaty, and dark complected arm that tightly wraped itself around my neck, and not too long after a bandanna was placed over my eyes. Naturally, I was a little frightened, but I knew that the best thing to do was to remain stoic.

When I finally convinced these natives to take me to their leader, they proceeded to parade me through their territory until we reached the place where Opechancanough, the King of Pamunkee, was waiting.  While talking to King, I pulled out my ivory compass, hoping that maybe he would let me free if I gave him this precious piece of equipment. He and the rest of the men were quite intrigued with the unfamiliar toy as they held in their hands. You could tell that they wanted it, and that they wanted it badly. Before I could reach for the compass in order to place it back in my pocket, I was swept off of my feet by multiple men and held against a tree. I fought hard to get away from them, but even with my ferocious strength, I couldn't hold off the hoard of savages for long enough.  A crowd of wild-eyed monsters circled around and pointed their weapons in my direction. Then, the King held up my beloved compass, convincing all the natives that stood around me to lay down their weapons. Eventually, I was untied from the tree and led by the men to Orapaks, where they kindly treated me to a huge smorgasbord of food.  These people must be the victims of some crazy mood swings.

My life was spared!

We soon arrived to our destination of Werowocomoco, where I gathered around a fire with more than two hundred people surrounding me. Upon my arrival my hands were washed and dried by the great Queen of Appomattoc before Powhatan was brought upon to me. Powhatan was the Emperor of all the native men, which was quite apparent given the way he was dressed. His attire consisted of a magnificent robe made completely out of raccoon skins and tails and those around us were clothed in red body paint, pure white bird feathers and long chains of white beads.

Next, I was dragged before Powhatan and the rest of his men, each gripping a club in their hands. They all lifted their clubs above their heads and stared at me with great fury. This was it, it was all over... or so I thought.  Before the clubs were swung to hit my head I heard the most doleful noise, and within the blink of an eye afterward a women had thrown herself on top of me, shielding my body from complete destruction. Her name was Pocahontas and she was the King's dearest daughter. (Not to mention a total babe!) After much discussion and debate within the group of Indians, an entreaty was made. My life was spared, but with an exception. I was told by the Emperor that they would allow me to live as long as I made them various items such as bells, beads, and copper. I accepted the deal, secretly knowing that I was the real winner in the situation.

Early yesterday morning I was encountered by Powhatan, and behind him stood about 200 of his men that asked to be my friend. I accepted the offer with great generosity and was asked by Powhatan to send two cannons and a grindstone. He declared that if I successfully granted him the items that he ask for, he would give me the country of Capahowosick and the permanent title as his son, Nantaquoud. So off to Jamestown I went, with 12 of Powhatan's trusty sidekicks by my side. For the entire walk back I waited  for the moment when they would try to murder me, so different escape plans kept circling around in the back of my mind, but luckily the dreaded moment never came. When we finally arrived at Jamestown in the morning, I retrieved the items Powhatan had ask for, handed them over to his 12 men, and sent them all back to return to their Emperor. The only thing that I can do now is hope that he is pleased.

Outrageous Assumptions

Just when I thought that life was good with my new Indian friends and my loyal subjects in Jamestown, it took a turn for the worse. I cannot believe it, trying to blame me for something I didn't even do? UNREAL!

I've only been back in Jamestown for a day since being captured by the savages and everyone seems to hate me, even more than they did before I was captured. My very own people, including the so-called "President", is trying to have me put to death by the Levitical law. Really? I DIDN'T EVEN KILL ANYONE! Supposedly the townspeople think that I killed Robinson and Emry, when really they were killed by the Indians. I just don't get people nowadays.

Finally... All is Well!

I  was finally able to convince the townspeople that I did not kill the two men and that they were obviously killed by the Indians. I pity this colony for not having the strength and wits that I possess.

Now that the Indians and I are friends, all seems to be well... especially with Pocahontas! Every four our five days she'll come down to Jamestown with a few of her attendants to bring the colonists and I much needed supplies, especially food since we arrived late and were unable to plant or harvest crops. Don't tell anyone I said this, but secretly I think she just wants to see me! Everyone finally seems happy again, especially me! God only knows what will ensue today, but I guess we can just wish for the best!
